India’s Gautam Adani with a net worth of $88.5 billion has overtaken Mukesh Ambani, who came in second with $87.9 billion in wealth, as Asia’s wealthiest person. His $12 billion increase in personal fortune makes him the world’s biggest wealth-gainer of the year.
In addition to being the richest man in Asia and India, he is also one of the world’s top 10 wealthiest individuals, according to Forbes.
During the next few years, his company will also invest $70 billion into green energy projects. As part of his aggressive diversification, he owns seven airports, which account for almost 25 percent of India’s air traffic. His group also controls power plants, green energy, and mines.
Top international firms have invested in Adani’s ventures, including Total SE and Warburg Pincus LLC. The company owns a dozen ports and plans to become the world’s largest port operator by 2030.
