Kentucky Fried Chicken has launched plant-based fried chicken in the United States for a limited time.
In recent years, meat alternatives and mock meats have become increasingly popular. More and more people have become conscious of the food they are eating, and are searching for ways to reduce the amount of meat consumed. This is not just for health reasons, but also for the detriment to the environment.
Slowly but surely, plant-based alternatives to regular meat are becoming more mainstream. An Israeli company recently launched the world’s first 3D-printed plant-based burger. Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) has put out a plant-based fried chicken line for the first time ever in the United States.
For a limited period of time starting 10th January 2022, KFC outlets in the United States will sell the special plant-based fried chicken. YUM Brands Inc., KFC’s parent company, has entered into this first-of-its-kind partnership with Beyond Meat Inc. KFC will sell the nugget-shaped fried chicken in six-piece packs for USD 6.99. It is made with plant-based protein.
The plant-based fried chicken recipe was developed specifically for KFC. The dish tastes exactly as if it’s made with the 11 signature herbs and spices used by the fast-food chain, and even resembles the shredded texture of the actual meat. After going through trials since 2020, the product will finally be available in the new year of 2022, during which people are reevaluating their eating habits.
With KFC becoming the first fast-food chain to offer plant-based items on their menu, we can expect a number of fast-food chains to follow suit.
