Known for her roles in movies such as Sir and Monsoon Wedding, Tillotama Shome has posted a new photo on Instagram. She is pictured basking in the winter sun in a black tee with the words ‘unapologetic’ written on them and showing the camera her unshaved armpits.

In the photo, Tillotama wears a big smile. Sharing it, she wrote, “I say ‘sorry’ a lot.” It’s the worst when I apologize in anticipation of someone’s apology as if it’s a hello. I’m sorry if I did something good that I could have done better. The visceral ones, of course, slip out of your mouth in silence. She also mentioned her unshaved underarms in her post. “Oh and about body hair, yeah I’m not sorry about that. I wear it the way I like it. It’s not a statement about me. I also wax. I also do not. Good day!” she wrote.

The majority of people who commented on Tillotama’s post were complimentary, but a few were not as polite. One woman wrote in the comments section, “Sorry but it looks disgusting.” Tillotama replied to her, “Be and let other’s be.”

Tillotama talked about the challenges she has faced in the industry in an interview with Cosmopolitan last year. “It’s fortunate that the ‘Fair & Lovely’ obsession never entered our house. My parents were progressives without even realizing it. After Monsoon Wedding, I became resentful of every offer for a maid role. In one American film, the director tried to darken her skin, even more, to appear poor as she looked ‘too beautiful to be poor’,” she said.

The actress played Alice opposite Vijay Raaz in Mira Nair’s acclaimed film Monsoon Wedding. In Sir, in which she portrayed a housekeep in love with her employer, apart from being praised, she also won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress (Critics).
