Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes, known for their hit song Señorita, announced their breakup on Wednesday.
Cabello and Mendes, who dated for more than two years, announced Wednesday (Nov. 17) that they are no longer together but they will “continue to be friends.”
The pair posted a matching statement, signed “Camila and Shawn,” on their Instagram stories.
According to a statement posted on their Instagram Stories, the couple wrote: “Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever. We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward.”
Recently, the couple celebrated Halloween together, even dressing up in matching folklorico outfits to honor Day of the Dead. They then shared both footage and photographs of the occasion.
Despite starting dating in July 2019, the pair met in 2014 when Cabello and Mendes were both opening for Austin Mahone’s group Fifth Harmony.
A duet they recorded in 2019, ““Señorita,” made it all the way to number one on the Hot 100. It won a Grammy nomination for best pop duo or group performance and an American Music Award for collaboration of the year. It wasn’t until after the release of the song, in July 2019, that they were first spotted walking hand-in-hand in West Hollywood, that their romantic relationship was officially confirmed.
