Two of Hollywood’s biggest stars will soon defy gravity when they appear in Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of West Side Story, following the success of In The Heights.
In the new film adaptation of Wicked, Arianna Grande will play Glinda the Good Witch, while Cynthia Erivo will play Elphaba.
In a post on Instagram, Ariana expressed her joy at landing the ‘dream role’. Ariana uploaded a carousel of images on Instagram, the first of which showed her with her head in her hands when she found out she’d be playing Glinda; her second photo was of a bouquet of pink flowers.
The flowers was from Ariana’s soon-to-be co-star, Cynthia, who will play her best friend in the movie. The bouquet was accompanied by a note that read, “‘Pink Goes Good With Green’ Congratulations Miss A, The Part Was Made For You, I Look Forward To Sharing This Musical Journey With You. Love, Cynthia.”
It’s also worth mentioning that both lead actresses hold some impressive performance credentials, with Erivo nearly achieving the coveted EGOT – having won a Tony, Grammy, and Emmy for her role as Celie in the 2015-2017 revival of The Color Purple. While Grande is best known for being a best-selling and award winning artist, he has also acted in Broadway’s 3 and Adam McKay’s upcoming film Don’t Look Up.
