According to officials, the Ladakh administration organized the first ‘Siachen ice climbing festival’ at Nubra valley in Leh on Wednesday.

They added that Sarpanch Khemi Halqa inaugurated the festival on Tuesday in front of officials from the Ladakh Police and residents of Tongsted village with an aim of promoting the glacier as an adventure spot.

The festival runs until March 20. According to them, 20 youths participated in the opening ceremony.

‘Siachen ice climbing festival’ is organised to promote the Siachen valley as a destination for adventure tourism in Ladakh. Additionally, it will allow people to observe and appreciate the extreme weather conditions and inhospitable terrain faced by army jawans and engineers

Tourist access to the base camp of Siachen glacier, the world’s highest battlefield, will be made available in September 2021, they noted.
