Abu Dhabi’s Environment Agency (EAD) Imposes Permit Requirement for Recreational Fishing

abu dhabi permit requirement for recreational fishing

In a move to regulate and promote sustainable marine sports fishing in Abu Dhabi, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) recently mandated a permit for all recreational fishing activities. This rule not only extends to recreational fishermen but also encompasses the coordinators of marine fishing contests.

The EAD permit is now crucial for anyone participating in recreational fishing. The permit covers fishing practices involving line and hooks, spear guns during free diving, and other methods authorized by EAD. Furthermore, hosting marine fishing contests is now solely the domain of authorized legal entities involved in marine activities.

How to Obtain Your Permit?

The process for acquiring a permit starts with a license request application, supplemented by all relevant documents. Applicants have a choice between an annual license and a weekly license. These can be obtained through the Tamm government services portal.

Applicants should be 18 or older. However, juveniles under 18 can accompany an adult with a valid fishing license. It’s important to note that the license is non-transferable and must only be used by the individual to whom it’s issued.

When it comes to marine fishing contests, organizers will need to ensure the event’s safety by providing necessary security measures, tools, equipment, and any other requirements specified by EAD.

Additional required documentation includes information on the species targeted, the type and quantity of fishing tools and gear to be used, and the total number of participants. EAD will also stipulate additional terms and conditions for event organizers to follow.
