Goldlined seabreams (Rhabdosargus sarba) and King soldier breams (Argyrops spinifer) will not be available in markets and stores from Feb. 1 to 28.
This month, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has banned the marketing and sale of goldlined seabream and king soldier bream fish across the UAE.
The ministry decided to regulate fishing and trade during the breeding season for certain species of fish. The ministry noted the move ensures food security in the UAE and sustainable fish stocks.
During the restricted period, all goldlined seabreams and king soldier breams accidentally caught in fishermen’s gear must be released back into the water.
Together with local authorities, the MoCCAE has been developing laws to regulate commercial fishing for the sake of protecting marine life and preserving fish stocks.
