Portuguese international João Cancelo, defender for Manchester City, reported on Thursday that he was assaulted during a burglary at his family home and suffered visible facial injuries as a result.
He posted a picture of himself with bruising around his right eye and a cut above it on his Instagram account.
As Cancelo wrote in his accompanying post: “Unfortunately today I was assaulted by four cowards who tried to harm me and my family. Cancelo said that they managed to take all of my jewellery and leave me with a face that looks like this. The most important thing to me is my family, and they are safe.
After learning of Thursday’s incident, Manchester City said they were “shocked and appalled.” “Joao and his family are receiving support from the Club and he is helping the police with their investigation,” the club wrote in a statement.
In 2019, City signed Cancelo from Juventus for $ 71 million and he has since become a key component of Guardiola’s team.
