MMA Legend Conor McGregor Tweets Out An Offer Of £1.5 Billion To Buy Chelsea F.C.

MMA star Conor McGregor makes his opening bid to buy Chelsea

In a bid to purchase Chelsea, Conor McGregor has offered £1.5billion as other global billionaires consider making a bid.

Earlier this week, the Chelsea’s Russian owner Roman Abramovich announced he is looking to sell the club due to the growing economic sanctions in the UK and the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, and he wants a quick sale.

Abramovich wanted £3bn for Chelsea, but MMA star McGregor, a supporter of Manchester United, offered half that amount on Twitter. According to a media report, Abramovich has set a price tag of £3bn for Chelsea. ‘The Notorious’ has tweeted, ‘I hereby make an offer of £1.5bn on this matter’.

Muhsin Bayrak, a Turkish businessman, claims he is in talks with Abramovich’s team regarding buying the club. The businessman is reportedly up against Todd Boehly and Hansjorg Wyss for the deal.
In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, UK lawmakers raised concerns about possible sanctions against Abramovich, which has led him to offload all his London assets before the British government imposes any penalties.

Reports indicate that Abramovich instructed American bank Raine Group to handle the sale and it is understood that the Russian is looking for American buyers as China, Asia and Eastern Europe have all dried up because of political reasons.

For an MMA match, McGregor, 33, makes anywhere between £25m and £50m, depending on pay-per-view sales. In 2017, he made £100m for a big crossover match against Floyd Mayweather.

McGregor sold the majority stake in his Proper No 12 whiskey brand last year for £430 million; however, there are doubts about his ability to afford Chelsea.
