TIME Magazine chooses Vitalik Buterin for the cover of its first-ever fully decentralized magazine. The Ethereum co-founder is arguably the most influential crypto personality today.

With a trillion-dollar ecosystem rivaling that of Visa in terms of transaction volume, Ether, Ethereum’s native currency, is currently the second biggest cryptocurrency behind Bitcoin. The Ethereum blockchain is setting the stage for a new open-source decentralized internet, also known as Web3.

According to Vitalik Buterin in a TIME cover story titled The Prince of Crypto Has Concerns, he experienced a “mixture of pride and dread” at creating bitcoin. Buterin claims that Ethereum has the potential to launch all kinds of sociopolitical reform like fairer voting systems, urban planning, and Universal Basic Income, Decentralization also allows the platform to be abused by greed and other vices.

Among the dangers, Buterin points out are the high transaction fees and overeager investors. There is a danger when you have these $3 million monkeys, he says, referring to Bored Ape Yacht Club. This full TIME article and video explores Buterin’s upbringing and discusses his vision for the future.

While this is TIME Magazine’s first full-length magazine issue as an NFT, it has previously collaborated with Cool Cats, released past iconic magazine covers through Superrare, and created a special cover with digital artist Beeple. TIME has also integrated digital wallets into its website and, as a result, is currently accepting Bitcoin as payment for subscription services.
