As Tesla tries to make solar products mainstream, it is launching a new solar roof tile with higher power capacity and efficiency.
As far as Tesla’s solar roof is concerned, the company has had ups and downs.
With its beautiful design, the product has gained wide recognition. While standard solar panels have a number of advantages, it has been able to penetrate markets like new houses and homes that are in need of roof replacements relatively soon.
Nevertheless, bringing it to market has proved challenging.
As Tesla learned how difficult it was to create a streamlined product that could work on so many different things, such as roofs, it has had difficulties testing longevity.
Tesla is adding a new, more powerful solar tile to its solar roof.
The “SR60T1” tile, with a 58.5-watt capacity, was previously used in Tesla’s solar roof designs.
Using a new “SR72T1” solar tile, the company is now quoting and starting installations.
With a max power output of 71.67 watts, the new tile is more powerful
Tesla was able to maintain tile size while increasing maximum power output by 22 percent with more efficient solar cells. By using fewer solar tiles on a single roof, Tesla will be able to fit more solar power.
As part of a solar roof installation, Tesla lays down some tiles with solar power and some without. The company tries to install the solar cells where they will be more effective on each roof.
The solar tiles and the non-solar tiles appear identical from the ground. Making fewer solar tiles could simplify installation, as fewer electrical connections will be required. According to Tesla’s new tile datasheet, solar tiles can also be installed over existing roofs.
