Freiburg, Germany, has been hailed as one of the top three cities in the world to visit in 2022 by Lonely Planet.
The respected Lonely Planet travel guide honored Freiburg as one of the top cities to visit in 2022, which is one of the first full top 10 lists since the outbreak of the COVID-19 infection.
It was the only city in Germany to make it into the top 10 of the ranking, beating out the German capital, Berlin, and other well-known cities. The travel guide lauded the city’s fresh air, beautiful surroundings, eco-friendly nature, and enviable quality of life.
Freiburg is considered a “pioneer of the German environmental movement,” according to the guidebook. “The charismatic, environmentally conscious Black Forest metropolis can teach many of us a few more tricks on how to live responsibly.”
The Lonely Planet guide also commended Freiburg for its gothic Minster cathedral and regional cuisine, including “Lange Rote,” a 30 centimetre long grilled sausage in a bread roll.
On the 2022 list, the cities of Auckland, in New Zealand, and Taipei, in Taiwan, come just ahead of Freiburg.
